About the Topic:

The so-called Arab Spring has been the subject of extensive conjecture since the first outbreak of civil unrest in Tunisia in 2011. The fall of dictatorial regimes in that country - followed by those in Libya, Egypt, Yemen and civil war in Syria - has distracted international attention from Israel and its conflict with the Arab world, but also given rise to some fundamental questions: What will be the long term impact of regime change in these countries for the region's lone true democracy?; And how should the Jewish state prepare for the rise to power of Islamic fundamentalists among the region's crop of new leaders? These and other questions will be addressed in this fascinating lecture.

About the Lecturer

Dr. Mordechai Kedar
Dr. Mordechai Kedar is the Director of the Center for the Study of the Middle East and Islam, a research associate of the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies and a lecturer in the Department of Arabic at Bar-Ilan University in Israel. He is one of Israel's leading figures in the understanding of the Arab world. He is the Middle East analyst of the daily newspaper Makor Rishon as well as other publications. Dr. Kedar is a frequent guest in the Israeli, Arab and international media.
