About the Topic:

Contrary to the asservations of President Obama and many other members of his administration, the greatest national security threat to the United States is not climate change, ISIS nor even the rise of a nuclear Iran. The greatest threat to the welfare of the citizens of the United States is debt - $18.5 trillion of it - an obligation that no one seems adequately capable of addressing.  How did this country acquire such a monumental obligation?   Who are our creditors? What systemic problems prevent our grasp of the myriad problems the debt raises?  And finally, can the debt be paid down and if so, who will pay it?  

These and many other questions will be addressed by our panel as we  inagurate our new Center for the Investigation of the National Debt.

 

About the Speakers: 

Bill Still is a former newspaper editor and publisher, best-selling author and award-winning documentary writer/director. He has written for USA Today, The Saturday Evening Post, the Los Angeles Times Syndicate, OMNI magazine, and produced the syndicated radio program, Health News. He has written 20 books, including his latest, No More National Debt (March 2011). He has written, directed and narrated three feature-length documentaries on monetary reform; The Money Masters (1995), the 15th-most-watched film on the Internet in history, The Secret of Oz, winner of "Best Documentary of 2010" at the Beloit International Film Festival, Jekyll Island in 2013. His YouTube channel - bstill3 - has nearly 20,000 subscribers and gets over 200,000 views per month.

Ellen Brown is an attorney, founder of the Public Banking Institute, and author of twelve books including the best-selling Web of Debt. Her latest book, The Public Bank Solution, explores successful public banking models historically and globally. She has also written over 300 articles, posted on her blog at EllenBrown.com; and co-hosts a radio program on PRN.FM called "It's Our Money with Ellen Brown."

Alan Myers is a CPA who lives and works in San Diego, California.  Over the past 23 years, the majority of his practice has been devoted to providing accounting-related services to Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustees and civil litigators.  These services include tax return preparation, analysis of potential fraudulent and preference transfers, testifying in bankruptcy court and superior court as an expert witness and more. He is the new director of AFA's Center for the Investigation of the National Debt.

 

With a background in Wall Street finance, Scott Smith is a serial entrepreneur, having co-founded companies in such diverse industries as agriculture, finance, educational media, and technology. He began his career as a pioneer grower of Sunburst tangerines, helping to develop a market for the fruit and establish the variety’s popularity in North America. In the past decade, Scott helped co-found four enterprises: C Squared, FinaTech, Blue Cheetah, and Fathym. C Squared is an angel fund employing a patent-pending financial structure. FinaTech is a developer of a patent portfolio of financial structures that increases the yield on investments in private equity funds. Blue Cheetah is a solution for porting legacy software applications to the cloud, and Fathym provides a platform for creating social media applications.
