About the Conference:
In a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, Harvey Silvelgate, the co-founder of the the campus watchdog group Foundation for Individual Rights in Education( FIRE) related how Wendy Kaminer a liberal activist and former member of the  governing board of the ACLU was shouted down at a Smith College forum for referring to the word' nigger" as an example of how outlawing that word,made nonsense of the entire notion of free speech.      The College dean, who had officiated as moderator of the discussion, was later forced to apologize to campus students and faculty who had been offended by the use of the word.  It was only one example among thousands where free speech has been emasculated in the name of minority sensitivities.  This important conference will address how things have gone so wrong on campus that on the modern campus today no one can talk to anyone else without first consulting their handbook for what might be considered offensive speech.  What do these speech codes mean for academic freedom?  What do they mean for the sanctity of free expression in general?    And what do they mean for the future of a democratic society?  These and other questions will be answered by an international panel of experts who are all dealing with the fall out from the speech codes within their own campus environments.

About the Speakers:

Avi Davis is an attorney, journalist, travel journalist, commentator, documentarian and Senior Fellow of the American Freedom Alliance. He is currently a Senior fellow of the American Freedom Alliance – a Los Angeles based organization formed to identify threats to Western civilization and uphold Western values and ideals. In this capacity he has coordinated seven major international conferences The Collapse of Europe? (Pepperdine University, June 2007); Identity Crisis: Can European Civilization Survive?
