Although much attention is given to the growth of Social Darwinism during the time of the Weimar Republic in the 1920's and preceding the Nazi rise to power in the early 30's, Social Darwinism was in fact alive and well in Germany during the Second Reich, laying the ideological and intellectual groundwork for the Holocaust and the German depredations of the Second World War. This fascinating documentary lays out a case for how Wilhemine Germany was gripped by the idea of struggle between the races for the domination of the Earth and how antisemitism of the period fed off that ideological ferment. To be followed by a discussion with Richard Weikart - author of the book From Darwin to Hitler.
