Waiting for Superman is a powerful indictment of America's impoverished educational system. It argues that good teachers are what matters most to effective tuition in the United States, yet, because of institutional inertia, our schools can neither alllow their shining stars to shine nor drop their bad apples. This result in a calcified system in which the worse off neighborhoods are hit the hardest. One of the film's major arguments is that teacher tenure must go and makes a case for this with facts, figures, clear arguments and corroborating examples. The film intensely wraps it all together by following a half dozen students who are portrayed as desperately seeking to win the lottery that will secure them a spot in a coveted charter school.
